The Chapel

The higher representativ qualitiy of the Eastern Great Hall compared to
the Western is shown by its direct connexion with the chapel which dates
back to the founding of the castle and was designed as a two storey chapel.

In the late 14th century the chapel was barrel vaulted and the upper
floor was changed to a living room. At the same time frescos by the
Bozner Schule were applied in the chapel. The reconfiguration was
probably finished by late october 1391, when the chapel was reconsecrated.

For many decades during the 18th and 19th century the chapel was used as
storage room, which severely afflicted the high qualtity frescos.
Nowadays only scenes showing the life of St. Catherine of Alexandria
remain in noteworthy completeness.

Following protection and restoration work the chapel was reconsecrated
in 2000 and now serves as sanctury for local people. Therefore the
chaple is not part of the ordinary guided tour. Vistiting is only
possible by arrangement.
