Permanent Exhibition
What is a tournament saddle? How did people dance in the Middle Ages? Do the heroes of our time differ from those of the past?
The new permanent exhibition, inaugurated 25 years after the castle’s reopening, provides answers to these and many other questions. It not only offers an opportunity to explore the significance of the frescoes in greater depth, but also invites visitors to immerse themselves in medieval culture.
The new exhibition route takes up the themes of the secular wall paintings of Runkelstein Castle and presents them to the public in an interactive way: through animations that bring the frescoes to life, music stations, activities for visitors of all ages, and much more.
Across three exhibition rooms, different themes are explored: the Vintler family, who commissioned the frescoes at the end of the 14th century; love and leisure in the Middle Ages; and the literature and legends that inspired this important cycle of frescoes.
